Optimist Class - Yachting Championship in Kerala
The Kerala Yachting Association will be organizing the State level Yachting Championship for Optimist Class for the year 2010 on 26-27th June 2010 at the Kerala Sailing Acadamey club house, Chattamma, Panangad. We the organizers of the championship invite application from all yachting clubs and district Associations of Kerala for their participation in the Championship.
The event would be inaugurated and flagged off by the Rear Admiral R P Sugathan PVSM (Retd) at 11 a.m. on 26th and the closing ceremony and price distribution by Hon. Minister for agriculture Mr. K. V. Thomas.
The race will be monitored by National Optimist Association of India (NOAI) and Officials from Yachting Association of India.
Over 40 participants will compete in the championship. The participants represent the following clubs and associations from various districts in Kerala.

KYA has started sailing activity in Munambam off Cherai Beach. One Go-cat has been put into water and some more are expected to be in water soon in Munambam as well as our base training camp at Aroor. Munambam activity is also for leisure sailing for yachting tourists in Cherai.

KYA Training camp in Cherai with Indian Navy
KYA is conducting a training camp in Cherai along with Indian Navy from 28th for 3 days on Laser, Enterprise, Optimist classes.

Roadshow at Rajagiri College Engineering and Management took place on 22nd Feb. There was good response from the student community interested in sailing.
Kerala Yachting Association (KYA) is the only association in Kerala affiliated to Yachting Association of India (YAI). KYA is also affiliated to National Optimist Association of India (NOAI) and Offshore Sailing Association of India (OSA).
KYA is attaining the status of the State body in Yachting sport for Kerala. Under KYA we already have 10 district associations and some sailing and boat clubs spread all across Kerala. KYA is taking advantage of the long sea coast and numerous water bodies of Kerala for sailing. Optimist Class yachts are used for training and competition for children aged between 7 and 15 years. Prominent adult class single handed yachts are the laser class.

As the 35th National Games is to be conducted in Kerala in January 2011, KYA is registering sailors and qualified trainers interested in building the district teams and State team. As the National games are only for adults to race in laser radial class yachts, KYA request interested sailors and beginners to register here.
KYA is looking for land allotments to establish a sailing school in Cochin. KYA is also establishing a water sports centre in Munambam beach enclave for sea sailing and other water sports activities. To know more about the present training facilities click here
