One can get trained in yachting irrespective of his age or gender. The only requirement is the right spirit and a yearning for adventure sports. The normal minimum age is 7 and there is no upper age limit. One has to be of normal health.
KYA has training facilities different classes. Since competitions are usually in the following categories, the training content is focused on preparing the candidate to acquire the necessary skills applicable to that class.
- Optimist class (7 years to 15 years)
- Enterprise class (15 years and above)
- Laser radial class (15 years and above)
- Sea Bird (18 years and above)
Panangad training facility
The Association’s training facility is located at Panangad (map) in the suburbs of Cochin where extensive expanse of backwaters is available. Training is conducted by experienced trainers deputed by YAI and stationed at our club house.
Basic training is of a 15 days capsule. This will include theory classes in a class room and 25 to 30 hours of sailing. Once training is completed in the backwaters, a certificate will be issued to the successful candidates.
After the completion of the initial training those who would like to venture out into the sea, an advanced training is available in Munambam beach next to the break water where sea sailing activities are being organized.
The fee structure includes light refreshments and practical training related expenses.
Candidates are also required to make a refundable caution deposit.
